The Old Town today

Proud residents

The Old Town today is inhabited partly by residents with long roots in the district, partly by long-term residents who are not originally from the town, and partly by people from the metropolitan region who have acquired a second or holiday home here.

This means change. Some houses are often empty, others are inhabited all day, all year round. But the inhabitants have something in common: a strong feeling for the old houses and the values they represent. They pride themselves on managing the old buildings and treating them with respect for their style and age, without sacrificing modern conveniences.

Over the years, several renovations have been carried out and work continues. The old town is cared for today, perhaps more than ever before.

Craftspeople and businesses

In the Old Town you will find craftspeople and businesses of various kinds, offering personal and friendly service: furniture restorers, window restorers, textile and interior experts, hairdressers, barbers, a laundry and pharmacies, amongst others. There are restaurants, cafes and pizzerias, and accommodation options if you want to stay a little longer. You can find more information under the tab "See and experience".

Near the sea and nature

The archipelago, the sea, and nature in general have always played an important role for those who live in the Old Town. Many have recreational boats at one of the jetties in the southern bay. Walking to nearby Hagen and Ramsholmen is popular, not least for dog owners. In the spring when the wood anemones bloom the number of visitors grows further.

The old town is located on a headland, with an enlarged archipelago consisting of about 1300 islands just offshore. The archipelago also houses the Ekenäs archipelago national park. The National Park Visitor Center Naturum is located near the Old Town, next to the child-friendly town beach.

An active residents' association
