Ekenäs Old Town Association

Ekenäs Old Town association was founded over 30 years ago, and currently has 135 active members. Its goal is to increase awareness of the district, to encourage a sense of community between residents, and to support and preserve the distinctive cultural environment of the Old Town.

Ekenäs has a strong Swedish-speaking identity, which the association tries to encourage.

We work to preserve and strengthen our unique urban environment by providing information, courses and lectures on associated topics. Through participation in the association, quality of life is increased and a sense of society is encouraged. All contributions to our activities are welcome.

Varied activities

The event "The Old Town Lives", with open courtyards, exhibitions, flea markets and public performances on Basatorget, is organized in collaboration with other associations and private individuals.

Unfortunately, the event scheduled for 1.8.2020 has been cancelled due to the corona pandemic but will return again on 31.7.2021.

Last year's ‘Christmas calendar’ event involved different houses in the Old Town opening their windows on different days, allowing visitors to look in. The local radio station participated in the event, giving daily tips to help people find the relevant houses for that day.

A new Christmas calendar event is planned for 2020.

The association's program also includes excursions to interesting buildings in the immediate vicinity and other old towns, and lectures on subjects including building maintenance, gardening, and fire safety.

The association and the town

Recently, there has been improved cooperation between the association and the town administration, meaning that local authority-owned buildings have become available for various events.
