Ekenäs – a pearl

The Old Town of Ekenäs, with its charming wooden houses, has been shaped over the years by the meeting of land and sea. The town was founded in 1546 by the Swedish king Gustav Vasa. The street layout still dates from that century, while the oldest houses still standing are from the 18th and 19th centuries. The stress of modern life disappears as you walk along narrow lanes in a wonderfully picturesque setting. Even for domestic tourists, a visit to the Swedish-speaking cultural environment of the Old Town is like stepping into another country – or age.

Today, Ekenäs is a pleasant small town where everything is close by and shops and restaurants give personal and friendly service. In the summer, the town buzzes with life in parks, terraces, squares, restaurants and cafés. But Ekenäs is also worth a visit in other seasons. In Spring, the town is dotted with flowering apple trees, colourful flowerbeds and green lawns. The colourful splendour of sunny autumn days cannot be described, only experienced. And snowy winter days in the Old Town are like a Christmas card from the past. Here you will find a real, genuine Christmas atmosphere.

Get acquainted with the town on foot or by bicycle, or rent a canoe and see the city from the sea. And the distance to Helsinki and Turku is only about 100 km!

Welcome to our idyll!
